Can I get my hat wet?
- It’s best to keep your hat dry at all times. It may get damp accidentally, but it should never be fully submerged in water. If your hat got damp, make sure to leave it in a dry and sunny spot to air dry with the underbrim up, as it's the cloth that will hold on to the water. If the brim of your hat becomes curved from getting damp check out our suggestions for how to fix a curving brim.
How to fix a curving brim?
- There’s couple of ways: You can steam the underbrim on the side of the cloth and then place the hat on a flat surface with heavy objects (books etc) on the brim to reshape the hat and leave it for example overnight. Another option is to use an iron. Place your hat with the underbrim up on an edge of a flat surface like a table or ironing board and press a hot iron on the brim. Don’t leave the iron for too long, rather hold for a bit then lift, rotate the hat and press down again. You might need to go around the hat a couple of times until you get to the desired shape.
Expected straw hat irregularities vs a damaged hat.
- Each hat is unique from one another, so there is no such a thing as a perfect straw hat that can be replicated. It is normal for straw patterns to have various spacing, for some little straws to stick out that can be easily cut off or left for a bit of a character. Depending on the type of the weave or straw size used for it, you might be able to see the under brim cloth from the top of the hat. Straw is a fragile material, so a straw or two could have a crack, however there should never be a whole that you can stick your finger in.
What are the sizes of the straw hats?
- All our hats are one size with a circumference of about 22 inches.
